FLOWERS IN A FIELD OF TERROR

Original Photo Portraits & Digital Collages (2019-2023)

Funded in part x The Right of Return USA Fellowship for Previously Incarcerated Artists.

Every single arrest and detainment results in the interruption of someone’s life—their joy, their love, their happiness. This series features original portraits of previously incarcerated or previously detained people experiencing moments of empowerment or joy; collage commentaries on politicians that perpetuate mass incarceration in Texas; digital self-portraits that speak to my spiritual journey of healing after my incarceration. Images from this series were used for the liner notes for A New Name for My Love (2021, I.C.L.), a spoken word album released during my fellowship with Civil Rights Corps.
