Supporting Our Community, One Offering at a Time
In 2010, I was incarcerated for a $25 bounced check at the grocery store. The experience transformed the way I saw myself and the world around me. For years, I have collaborated with grassroots organizations nationwide to advocate for meaningful policy changes. Now, I want to help steward something my community can use right now—groceries.
Launching July 2025, The Craft Career Studio™ will begin selecting one individual each month to receive a $250 gift toward groceries, basic supplies, or healing needs. This offering will be made possible by donations from me and my community—people like you who believe in mutual aid, creative sustainability, and care without conditions.
I chose $250 because it is 10x the amount of my original check. I know the true value of a single meal, and I want to make sure that someone walks away feeling full.
If you’re able to contribute, your donation goes directly to supporting someone navigating financial hardship—no overhead, no admin fees, just care in action. People who would like to receive GROCERIES will be asked to submit the following:
Contact Information: Name, Email, Payment Preference, Website
(3) Samples of creative work created in the last 12-24 months.
What do GROCERIES mean to you?
My hope is that we will:
Provide immediate support to at least one individual every month.
Introduce artists and writers to new audiences and collaborators.
Encourage the community-at-large to take action.
Recipients will be selected by Craft Career Studio staff, volunteers, and occasional guest selectors for both the quality of their submitted samples and their ability to creatively answer our question: What do GROCERIES mean to you?
Recipients will be contacted by the 29th of every month, with funds dispersed via Zelle, Venmo, or CashApp within 24–48 hours. To honor transparency and trust, recipients must agree to share one of the following: a photo, note, or short post about how the offering supported them. These updates will be posted (with consent) to show donors where their gifts go.
Applications will reset on the 1st of every month. Only one person is selected per month at this time. Once our capacity has grown, we will expand this offering.
Our first round of applications will open on June 15, 2025.
We believe food is a right, not a reward.
